About CETOP
Who is CETOP? CETOP is the abbreviation of Comité Européen des Transmissions Oléohydrauliques et Pneumatiques. CETOP is the European Fluid Power Committee.
Thus, it is:
· The communication platform for fluid power in Europe.
· The international umbrella organisation and communication platform for the
fluid power associations in Europe.
Through the 19 national associations which are member of CETOP, all well known companies in Europe belong to the European Committee. Many of these companies are leading fluid power manufacturers and major players in the international markets.
CETOP represents more than 1,000 companies – mainly manufacturers, but also some dealers – with almost 70,000 employees and a market value of about 14 billion EURO. These account for a very high proportion of companies active in these fields – 80-90% in most countries.
CETOP cooperates with ISC – the International Statistics Committee with the aim of getting global Fluid Power Statistics, following commonly agreed definitions and nomenclatures. The following associations belong to ISC: CETOP (Europe), CHPSA (China), FPSI (India), JFPA (Japan), NFPA (USA), and TFPA (Taiwan).
What is CETOP doing?
CETOP provides support for its members in many different ways. We are working closely together with our member associations and their companies – together with the industry for the benefit of the industry.
To our members we offer for example:
- CETOP statistics on European fluid power – unique in offering reliable data tailored to the interests of the industry, available exclusively to companies of the CETOP associations.
- Supplier and product database to advise customers – information on more than 1,000 companies and their products.
Education and training initiative. - Position papers concerning EC Directives – industry’s response to the Commission’s proposals or directives.
- Lobby at the EU Commission – both in technical and marketing areas, harmonised pan-European proposals are a vital requirement for success.
- Platform for the exchange of experience and opinions.
- And much more.

What is fluid power - hydraulics and pneumatics?
Fluid power provides the components and systems which form the foundation of drive and automation technology. Fluid power is used to drive and control all kinds of mechanical motions; indeed, there is scarcely a machine or vehicle in the world today which could operate without fluid power – hydraulics and pneumatics – to deliver the necessary force and torque wherever linear, rotary or combination movements are required. A major advantage of fluid power is the compact design of its components, giving the high power-to-weight ratio which distinguishes it from all other forms of propulsion.
Hydraulics and pneumatics manufacturers are major suppliers to the entire mechanical-engineering industry and many other industries, such as construction and agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, food and packaging machinery, woodworking and machine tools, electrical engineering, shipbuilding, the metal industry, mining, aviation and space travel, medical technology, environmental technology and chemical industry.
